DuEWA M. FRAZIER -- Multi-faceted Artist



Born in Brooklyn, New York at the age 5, DuEwa first stepped on stage, playing the late activist Rosa Parks in a play called "We Shall Overcome." In grade school DuEwa began keeping journals and writing creatively.

DuEwa took dance training as a child and young adult. Her most memorable dance performance and training experiences were in high school in Kinesis Dance Company and at: The Katherine Dunham School of Dance(SIUE), Elegba Folklore Society(Richmond, VA) and Dance St. Louis.


DuEwa earned the B.A. Degree in English at Hampton University in Virginia, and the M.S.Ed. Degree in Curriculum and Teaching at Fordham University in New York. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, The International Honor Society of Educators and a member of NABJ. DuEwa is the Founder/CEO of LIT NOIRE PUBLISHING, a creative arts and publishing organization.

DuEwa's journalistic credits include profiles and editorials published in: Allhiphop.com, Mosaic Literary Magazine,AALBC.com, TheCrusade.net, The Hill Newspaper, Rapdirt.com, DaveyD.com. DuEwa's essay, "Ban the Video Ho" featured on hip hop e-zines and published in newspapers is still creating quite a stir! Her essay prompted rappers, educators, parents, college students and hip hop heads from all over the country and abroad to email her with words of support for expressing progressive views, toward ending the degradation of women in hip hop videos. Additionally, DuEwa has been a featured speaker on panels addressing the issues of negative images of women in hip hop media.

DuEwa is the author of the inspirational, published volumes of poetry Shedding Light From My Journeys(April 2002) and Stardust Tracks on a Road(April 2005). DuEwa is also the Editor of the 38th NAACP IMAGE AWARD NOMINATED anthology (in the category of OUTSTANDING LITERARY WORK - POETRY), Check the Rhyme: An Anthology of Female Poets & Emcees! Check the Rhyme Anthology, is presently receiving rave reviews for its diversity of women's voices, uplifting and thought provoking content, and originality in the area of independent publishing and support for women's art!

DuEwa was the producer of Word Canvas, Sisters of Creativity for Positive Hip Hop, and From Griot to Rapper(for the 2003 New York City Literary Festival) poetry and music events in New York City. Additionally, she co-produced and hosted The Velvet Lounge music and poetry events in New York City.
She has been a featured artist at various writer's venues and performance showcases such as: The Nuyorican Poet's Cafe; Madison Square Garden Theater, Temple University, Rhymes, Rhythms and Rituals Poetry & Music Concert, Indianapolis Book Fest, The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz, The University of Pennsylvania, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Howard University Bookstore, DC's Bohemian Caverns, The Bowery Poetry Club, Rush Arts Gallery, October Gallery, Sisters Uptown Bookstore, Borders Bookstore, St. Louis' Legacy Bookstore and Cafe, Karibu Books, Bluestockings Bookstore, Robin's Bookstore, and a host of others.

DuEwa was featured in a poetry documentary "Rhyme & Reason", which aired on CUNY TV in Spring 2005, directed by Annette Calderon.

She has featured on radio stations: 89.3 WPFW in Baltimore, Howard University's WHUR-FM with Joe Gorham, Temple University's WRTI-FM, and WBAI in New York. DuEwa was a guest poet on "LIVE at the Kelly Writer's House" CD, in which aired on Philly radio WPIX-FM and Baltimore radio stations. She revealed her lyricist skills on Rebirth Entertainment's (producers of Eargasms Vol. 1, poetry compilation CD) Flobonics Underground Floetry Mix CD-a compilation of spoken word fused with hip-hop and jazz music.

In summer(Sisters Uptown Bookstore) and fall(The Nuyorican Poets Theater) of 2004 DuEwa performed her one-woman dramatic play, "Flash Femininity"--a solo drama featuring themes addressing: the current state of hip hop, why women have been labeled "the bitch", the war in Iraq, and women with HIV/AIDS commentary. She has also written children's stories, poetry for children, and a play, "Me and Zora".

DuEwa's poetry has been published in Essence Magazine, Drumvoices Revue, Voice Magazine, PW Review, For Real Magazine, X Magazine (UK) , No More Silent Cries Anthology, Poetry Ink 10th Anniversary Anthology (Plan B Press/Moonstone Readings), and other publications. She has been profiled in: The St. Louis Argus Newspaper,Awareness Magazine, Rolling Out Urbanstyle Weekly, Booking Matters Magazine, Spokenvizions Magazine, Verbalisms, The Backlist, Femmixx.com, St. Louis American Newspaper and others. She resides in New York.
